Sharing some basic essentials

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim (In the name of Allah, The Most Beneficent, The Most Merciful)

This is a first of many posts where I plan to share some information about my chosen path. This serves as an invitation to learn, as well as a way for me to continue on my path of seeking much needed knowledge. My ultimate goal for this blog is to continue gaining knowledge of Islam and to share this knowledge with others. An important duty of Muslims is to continue to seek knowledge, to spread the truth of Islam, and to invite other to this truth. Insha’Allah, I plan to post about our beliefs, about the basic tenets of Islam, some definitions of words and phrases that I will be using throughout my posts, some random topics, and some short personal essays. I may even share links to other websites or short videos that I have found to be enlightening.

I am continually inspired by my experiences (people I meet, things that I read, things that happen in my day, nature, sadness, happiness, media, world events) and I want to capture my thoughts, link them to my beliefs, learn, and share!

Before I begin to share information, I must begin by saying that all of the truth and all that is correct here comes from Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) (SWT) and anything that you read here that is a mistake comes from me alone.

I know that many non-Muslims that are acquainted with me, including many of my friends and family, are curious as to why I made the decision to embrace Islam. Many of you have misconceptions of what Islam is, mainly due to the media portrayal of Islam and Muslims. I can assure you that most of what you see, hear, and read through the media is not Islam. You may be surprised to learn that most of the things portrayed in the media, and the horrific things that some individuals are doing in the name of Islam are absolutely forbidden in Islam!

Many of you may be quite surprised to learn what Islam really and truly is, and you may be very surprised to learn that it has similarities to what some of you may already belief. It should be, as it is the absolute belief in Monotheism. This is the foundation and essence of Islam!

Let me end this post with a definition of a very important arabic word:

Tawhid: Tawhid is faith in the unity of God. The belief that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, The Most Glorified, The Most High). There is no god worthy of worship but God, Allah (SWT). Allah (SWT) is the Arabic word for God.

So my friends, I will post soon Insha’Allah (If it is God’s Will). Stay tuned.

  1. Thanks, Haana. My time recently has been overloaded with “deadlines” but I like to read posts such as the above so I can learn and digest things a bit at a time. It is overwhelming sometimes to try to immerse yourself in material that is so foreign to what you were raised to believe but please be patient with me…Allah (God) isn’t done with me yet! Love, your big Sis
